Intense indian coffee

Indian Tiger Stripes is a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. They are sourced from south west India, in the area of Coorg, Chikmaglur and Wayanaad. The inclusion of Robusta beans makes the Indian Tiger Stripe an ideal choice for anyone preferring a higher caffeine content with intense flavour. The name Tiger Stripes comes from the mottled pattern which occurs in the crema, resembling the stripes of the bengal tiger.

What are the best coffee growing regions in India?

The various plantations where this coffee is grown are in some of the more unique regions across India. Coorg is notorious for its robusta production and was one of first plantations set up by the British in the 1800’s. The Chikmagalur region lies just above Coorg and is located near the Bababudangiri mountain range, gifting the landscape with high elevation which is ideal for the flavours of arabica to mature. Bababudangiri is a region in itself and is the home of all Indian coffee, where the crop was first planted. The final region of this coffee is the Wayanad region which grows Robusta at slightly higher elevations than others across India, resulting in a high quality.

Other regions in India include:

  • Pulney – the highest region in all of India with elevation up to 2000m.
  • Kerala – produces over a third of all Indian coffee and is located near the Malabar coast where Indian Monsoon is cultivated.
  • Karnataka – which used to be known as Mysore, grows the majority of all Indian arabica. Rich, black volcanic soils harbour fantastic conditions for arabica.
  • Nilgiri – a very mountainous region, allowing small microlots to thrive.
